Manually obscure faces in images
Cover faces with an ellipse, blur, pixels or black. Manual browser-based selection without uploading your photo.
Open editorUse an ellipse to mark a face area. Choose blur, pixelation or black and adjust each region independently. Schutzo does not automatically detect faces.
How it works
Choose a photo from your device.
Draw an ellipse over each face and select an effect.
Check every region and the image edges, then download the result.
Selection is manual. Blur and pixelation are not a guarantee of anonymization. Check all faces and the final exported file.

What happens to your files
Selected files and edits are not uploaded to a Schutzo server. A temporary local draft in your browser supports recovery in the same tab. It expires after ten minutes of inactivity. If the browser is closed, an expired draft is removed the next time the app opens. Language and theme preferences are stored separately.
Capabilities and limitations
PDF.js loads from an external CDN. Requests for application code may therefore leave your device; your selected documents are not uploaded with them. Maximum 200 MB per file and 200 pages per workspace. Images: up to 40 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side; up to 80 megapixels in total.
PDF exports contain newly rasterized pages. The original text layer, searchability and PDF structure are not preserved. Blur and pixelation do not guarantee irreversible anonymization. Use fully opaque black coverage for sensitive content and check the exported file.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. You can use Schutzo without signing up.
Are my documents uploaded?
Document processing and export run in your browser. Your documents are not sent to our server for editing.
What happens after a refresh?
The last saved local draft can be recovered in the same restored tab if ten minutes of inactivity have not elapsed. A sudden crash may lose the most recent changes.
Are faces detected automatically?
No. You select the areas manually using a rectangle or ellipse.
